Childhood is a precious thing. This is something that should be fun and nurturing. My childhood was full of hardships and trauma. One way that I was able to cope with everything was baking. The kitchen became my happy place. I loved making cupcakes and all other kinds of desserts. I also loved visiting bakeries and seeing all of the sweet creations. These things became very therapeutic to me and has thus inspired this project.

My senior exhibition is called “Bake It Up.” This concept is of a bakery that focuses on selling cupcakes. All of the concepts are meant to be colorful and fun as to appeal to children and brighten the mood of whoever sees it. This bakery is meant to allow creative freedom and to provide a happy place where anything is possible. One aspect allows the child to receive a kit to allow them to explore their own baking adventure.

How can baking be fun and nurturing? Children can explore different recipes and ingredients and learn about them. Through this, children can learn about healthy eating habits and how food is made. They will also feel included by making something with an adult to help them. This can be very good for a growing child’s mental health as well as physical health.
